Betina - The Hunters

Here is some more good stuff from the Sir Lancelot label, check my previous post if you like this. Betina sings about the dangers that lurks it the dark end of the street - a typical 80s theme with "street crime" being a common topic in movies and music. Its not very convincing coming from Betina in stockholm, and the cover doesnt send any chills down my spine but its a great track none the less. Produced by Tomas Blank whos behind alot of releases from this era. The style is not easy to define but I would say it floats along somewhere in between balearic and italo. This is the superior 12" version with break and all.

I brought a big pile of cheapo mid eighties 12" home yesterday, 90% of them will go back to the wild but there were some nuggets in there. A few will go on ebay but these keepers are well worth a download. Hi bitrate for the lurkers!

Flora Orrery - Classified Love

The description "balearic" is used a little to frequent - these days media working-hipster DJs will label anything balearic. This however is a balearic tune if i ever heard one. Perfect for that 1987 Ibiza sunrise.

Gene Chandler - I'll make the living if you make the loving worthwhile

This 12" has been playing a lot in my house recently - I picked it up at my local spot mainly because of the label, Bluebird also released L.A. Nights by Yasuko Agawa which is a great tune. This must be one of Gene Chandler finest moments - the stellar production floats on in about 100bpm and its got a huge hook. The sound really has stood the test of time, the lyrics however... I don't think they would go down today. But who cares - when Gene's singing it makes sense.
